Hyderabad Kingsmen crumble under pressure
But in a matter of 9 balls, the game flipped on its head. It all started with Sufiyan Muqeem, the highest wicket-taker of PSL 2026, sending in-form Usman Khan back to the hut. A beautiful googly got the better of a batter who had scored three consecutive fifties.
Irfan Khan joined Saim Ayub in the middle. But the new batter on the crease was visibly nervous. Sharp fielding from Michael Bracewell and Irfan was short on the non-striker’s end. From 71/2, Hyderabad was 72/4 all of a sudden. Experienced campaigner Glenn Maxwell joined Ayub.

He had the onus to take Hyderabad out of trouble. But he did the opposite. On his first ball, he went for a pull but Nahid Rana, who had received a special NOC for the PSL 2026 final, got big on him, and Maxwell miscued the ball to Farhan Yousaf at wide mid-on.
Kusal Perera’s controversial run out
Another in-form batter, Kusal Perera, came in. The southpaws needed to stabilise things. But the nervousness of a collapse hadn’t dissipated yet. Ayub called for a tight run, and Perera fell just short. The Sri Lankan batter was given out, but he didn’t want to go. You see, Nahid had forced him to slow down as he ran towards the ball.
Perera contested that Nahid was the reason behind his run out. But the third umpire believed that the fast bowler didn’t obstruct the batter after reviewing the incident. From being on top of the game, Hyderabad were out of the game in a matter of 1.3 overs. Ayub, who had picked up form in the Eliminator 2, was stranded in the middle as Hassan Khan also holed out.
